Stabilizing lifesaving medicine for better care.

Critical therapeutics exist. The barrier to lifesaving care is not always science. Sometimes it is time and access. Many products can expire before they are needed or degrade en route to the patient. Patients in remote areas, on the battlefield, and in rural communities often cannot access existing care. DesiCorp stabilizes medicine so it can go anywhere, be stored without cold-chain infrastructure, and be administered when needed.

Freeze-dried red blood cells

Hemorrhage is the leading cause of preventable death in pre-hospital trauma. The window for intervention is narrow. In the time it takes to transport a patient to a hospital, that window closes. The problem is not the medicine. It is that blood cannot be stored where patients are.

The benefits of this innovation

18 Million Americans are more than 30 minutes from the nearest blood supply.
90% survival rate when blood is administered within 60 minutes of injury.
Source: Candidate: Meyer et al. 2017/2018, Journal of Trauma.
Stable at elevated temperatures. No temperature monitoring required.
Years-long shelf life for freeze-dried packed red blood cells.
Significantly reduced size and weight vs. liquid packed RBCs.
The Sciences
Anhydrobiosis: Life Without Water

Nature solved the problem of surviving without water long before medicine tried to. Plant seeds and special animals like brine shrimp start their life cycle by entering  a state of suspended animation in a completely desiccated state and return to full function when rehydrated. DesiCorp applies these same biological principles to human therapeutics, preserving products as dry powders that stay stable for years, across a wide temperature range, without monitoring.

Stabilizing red blood cells
We start with packed red blood cells (pRBCs).
The pRBCs go through an ultrasound process to prepare the cells.
We then inject preservatives that strengthen the blood cells.
The preserved red blood cells are freeze dried.
The freeze dried blood is now stable and ready to deploy.
